I just did a revamp of my http://www.herosoul.com website and wanted to ask the group for any suggestions for improvement (from a marketing perspective).

Constructive criticism only please. ;-)>

Thanks,

Sharif though im no authority on marketing, however in view of my experience, and as a user visiting your site for the first time i'd like to point out a few things.(Some of my points do relate to marketing as well)

I believe that a website plays an essential role in marketing oneself. The first impression that one gets from the main page is usually the last impression. This page acts as the stepping stone in helping the user to decide if he/she really want to explore other info displayed on the website or not. Having a fair idea of who your target audience is, unfortunately your website failed to grab my attention.

1. The homepage gave me no clue as to what the site is really about. I know its a book coz of the picture on the home page, but what is the book about. Even though the info is given on the inner pages, but most of us wont even bother doing an extra click to get to that part.

2. The main page is not at all appealing. It gives a feeling of incompleteness.

3. The placement of your picture in the middle is throwing things off balance. I would also highly recommend you using a different picture.

4. I suggest you have some info about herosoul on the main page. A kind of a summary. You can show testimonials of other authors in a separate column on the right.

5. A website must be aesthetically pleasing. Anythign.. be it colour, type of font being used etc that causes one to lose its focus must be avoided. In this specific case i'd suggest sticking to 2 colours. Red and dark blue. The light blue colour of the panel is clashing with the rest of the colour theme of the website. In a nutshell i think you should go for a totally differnt web design..one that is contemporary and gives you a professional look.

6. The Ordernow placement is not right. You could show it as a separate icon somewhere else on the page, preferably on the left panel.

7. There's no need for a separate option for testimonials

8. The formatting of the inner pages must be greatly improved.

Honestly speaking if i were a part of your intended audience, i would not have been intrigued to explore your present site further. Excuse me for sayign this, but the unprofessional look of the website would probably attract 3 out of 10 ppl.

Hope this feedback helps!

Thanks Tameem! This is great feedback that I can use as I will -- in the near future -- be converting my brochure website into a dynamic website.

Hi Sharif,

I'd have to agree with Tameem on all counts. I'd also like to add that from an optimization perspective - you could use some improvement. Here are the top searches relating to HERO this month:

hero 196658
city of hero 29666
super hero 26718
hero poster 18947
hero del silencio 16365
somebodys hero 16180

This tells me that the kind of hero's people are looking for might not always be those that you are referring too. And your frequency of these words is low - so you might not get their attention anyhow.

But because your part of your mission is to spread this through corporations, you are missing the following:

philanthropy 10913
chronicle philanthropy 5765
event philanthropy 1809
corporate philanthropy 551

I can consult you about how to optimize your own site if you wish - but for now - I would make sure that you are chosing the words that your market is using to find people like you or books like yours.

ON THAT NOTE: One other thing that you might want to be aware of, is that you have postioned your entire message as self promotion instead of addressing the WIFM (what's in it for me) for the consumer.

If your goal is to convince people to buy - you need to tell them why they would WANT to buy.

Also - because the subject of HERO seems to be perceived as only worthy of a cartoon superhero or a world leader; you will have to educate people on why they would gain something from reading about hero's.

I know from talking with you personally Sharif, that through this book you want every day people in the world to unveil the hero within themselves - so - this too needs some mention, but not only does it need mention - it also needs some solid supporting info. You need to convince people that a hero REALLY IS within each of us; and how through reading this book we are likely to see it for ourselves.

Hope that helps...

Cijaye.

Thanks Cijaye!! Excellent advice. I never even considered the philanthropy aspect. And yes I do need a strong WIFM.

Greatly appreciated. :)

Tameem, thanks for referring Tony's site. Indeed, a model to look up to!
