Hi Chad,

Firstly, marketing should never be considered painful and looked at as an expense... in my opinion! Marketing is the only thing in your business that provides you the greatest "Leverage."

Here's what I mean- anybody can create a marketing piece, have it designed and get it out the door. I mean it, literally anybody can open up a computer program and create a marketing piece, send it to one of the 8,000+ graphic designers around and have a local printer produce it and mail it out.

But here's an important distinction that needs to be made! There are two sides to marketing - Strategic Marketing and Tactical Marketing. Strategic marketing is "What You Say," "How You Say It" and "Who You Say It To." It's the actual message on the piece you're sending out. Tactical marketing is simply the medium that carries the strategy. Tactical marketing could be anything - letter, postcard, yellow pages, radio, TV, billboards, trade publications, e-mail, etc. Everybody is familiar with those tactics and can purchase them if they so desire.

See, you can spend $3,000 on a marketing effort and have it produce 10 new clients, or you can spend the same $3,000 on a marketing effort and have it produce 200 new clients. You can do it by having the right strategy. This is what I call "Marketing Leverage,” or getting a bigger bang for your buck!

Suggestions:
1.Try different web forums where people discuss your type of product and post comments and links to your website. Search engines will find these links plus this will drive traffic to your site.

2.Build a database and continue to market to these people through e-mail. Send them educational information based on the topic of your site. There is currently nothing on your homepage to have people sign up to get more info. Create a report or some type of informational piece people can subscribe to, i.e. “The Top 10 Things To Consider When Joining An Online Auction” report.

3.Google adwords... set up small campaigns and drive targeted people to your site.

4.Create a newsletter reference Music and Film Auctions and submit it to the thousands of free newsletter directories online.

These are just a few of many, many suggestions. Basically you want to position yourself and your site as the expert when comes to your topic.

Hope this helps.
John

Hello Eeryone,
Advertising has become part of our lives. it seems every time you turn around some sort of advertising is hitting you in the face. You turn on the T.V for your favorite show and get bombarded by someone trying to sell you something, billboards, magazines posters, in the stores... you know the scenario, and the sad part is, very few of them are original or interesting.
Now given the amount of advertising around us, you would think advertisers would want to "stand out from the crowd." In fact consumers are getting so immune to all these ads that unless you can come up with something that catches your readers eye you cannot hope to sell let alone get the edge on your competitors.
So how can you grab your readers attention and stand out from the crowd? By making your advertising different and original. This means taking a look at your ads and the way you are advertising and make them different and original. your prospective buyers will sit up and take notice.
we are all about originality. Here you will find original and unique ways to advertise, and promote your business. Wordsearch Ads start at $17.95. Go to my RYZE Page to see copies of Endorsements, Testimonials, and Samples.

Chad,

What marketing techniques have you tried? How about keyword advertising through Google or Overture (Yahoo). Also, things like by-lined articles on web-based publications, if done correctly, can be good for driving traffic to your site.

pay per click, worked but I would end up with about 500 clicks in one day and right now we are at the stage were we are not charging for anything (just building the community). So it was awfully expensive. As far as articles I would be interested in knowing which sites to go to?
Thanks

Chad,

In that case you may want to invest in some search engine optimization (if you aren't already doing this). Your site looks really good, but its Google Page Rank is only 3/10 - page rank is a measure of a page's "relavance" based on the number of well-ranked pages that link to it. Results take time, but it's well worth it.

The bylined articles idea really should be part of a broader strategy. What sites you approach and offer articles to really depends on things like:

-your target audience
-whether or not you or anyone on your executive team has any significant experience that might be relevant to certain specific audiences
-music or film publications

You may also want to also consider investing in some other public relations activities as well (i.e.: doing some media outreach), as the overall topic of song/movie distribution on the web is a very hot topic these days, and your idea is pretty compelling.

May 04, 2005 4:10 pmFrom Cijaye - Marketing should NOT be painful and doesn't have to be expensive!#

Cijaye DePradine
Good morning everyone,

Wow has it ever been a while since I have had the time to come in and participate with some of you on these topics (shame on me really!).

Anyhow, my absense has been a result of some very BIG decisions made recently by myself (those of you who subscribe to my Cijaye Creative newsletter - already know). But, these decisions really do affect my position, my perception and my overall knowledge in Marketing...which I will share with you all shortly.

But right now, I have to share in this particular topic because I have some strong opinions: 1) marketing will only be painful for you if its done wrong! And 2) the expense is minimal if the results make up for and exceed the expense...(which should always be the case).

So for anyone on this network who believes that marketing isn't a good thing, please reprogram your mind (or seek someone out to help you do this)- its the only way you will allow yourself to view it as a positive and not a negative and therefore create the same results.

As for tips and strategies - I have plenty and I welcome direct questions at any time. My 15 years in this industry has to count for something right...

Best regards...Cijaye.

Here are 7 great techniques that don't cost a whole lot.

1. Generate Targeted Traffic from Online Discussion Forums Online discussion forums provide an excellent way to promote your website without paying any money. Nowadays, you don’t even have to lurk around before you begin to post. Just browse the messages and you can start posting. There are basically three different ways to participate. You can ask questions, respond to requests for help or just post any useful information that fits with the general topic of that discussion forum. To promote your site in online discussion forums, all you have to do is enter your website address or ad in your signature line at the bottom of each message. Every time you post or respond to questions your ad will be displayed. If you post good content, people who read your threads will also check out your website. This is an excellent way to drive targeted traffic to your website at no cost to you. You can take this type of site promotion a step further by identifying the active members in each forum and contacting them for joint venture arrangements.

2. Write Articles or Free reports for other webmasters to publish. Another effective way to promote your website is to write articles, using your keywords in your title and body, or free reports for ezine publishers and webmasters to use. If you write good content, your articles will be published and many readers who like your article will go on to visit your website. You can also write simple research based articles and allow others to publish these freely on their websites. The traffic from these free articles will come from your byline. The ‘byline’ is the short paragraph that goes at the bottom of each article and describes who the author is and what they do. The good thing about writing this type of content is that it establishes you as the expert and therefore increases the chances of people visiting your website and signing up for whatever you’re offering.

3.Set yourself up a blog to publish your articles Not only publishing your articles on those article websites like articleworld.net, but also publishing it in your blog. Publish your articles in your blog first, then submit them to the article bank websites. Using a blog helps to get your site indexed in the search engines much faster.

4. Do Joint Ventures with List owners and Webmasters If done correctly, joint venture marketing is one of the most effective ways to promote a product or service. A Joint venture can take many forms but it’s generally an agreement for some kind of partnership between one or more parties working together to their mutual benefit. It allows you to leverage highly targeted lists or traffic with no risk. Joint ventures are excellent for new product or service announcements because they allow you to reach a wide customer base very quickly.

5. Leverage the power of your email Signature One of the quickest and effective ways to start driving traffic to your website at no extra cost is to add your ad or website address to your email signature. This way, every time you send an email, you’ll be advertising your website. You can take this a step further by asking your friends and associates to put your website address in their email signature. Most people don’t use their email signature facility in their email program so you can easily get 10 or more people to agree to do this. If you and your 10 friends each send out 10 emails per day, that’s 110 exposures of your ad every day without any extra effort on your part.

6. Exchange Links with Other Webmasters If you can still find webmasters that still do this, since the trend is towards paid links, this is another effective strategy for generating targeted traffic to your website for free. It involves contacting other webmasters for a possible link exchange partnership. All you have to do is locate websites that are related to yours but that are not in direct competition and contact the webmaster to swap links. There are various free ebooks and articles available online on this topic.

7. Advertise on Craigslist Craigslist is an "online classifieds" that is great free advertising. It also contributes to your link popularity. Post your ad on Craigslist in "every" city so that you are getting your name out there. You will have to tweek your ad for each city to be able to post.
